Ficus microcarpa, commonly known as the Chinese Banyan, is a species of fig tree native to parts of Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, China, and Malaysia. This evergreen tree is easily recognizable by its thick, gnarled trunk and dense canopy of glossy, oval leaves. In its natural habitat, Ficus microcarpa can grow to majestic heights, but when cultivated as a houseplant or bonsai, it is typically pruned to a manageable size. This plant is very popular in bonsai due to its ability to thrive in a variety of conditions and its impressive root structure, making it an excellent choice for beginners and enthusiasts alike.

How to care for Chinese Banyan
Water
Water your Ficus microcarpa when the top inch of the soil feels dry to the touch. Water thoroughly until the water flows out of the drainage holes, but ensure that the plant is not left sitting in water. Reduce watering in the winter months.
Light
Place the Ficus microcarpa in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some partial shade, but insufficient light may lead to fewer leaves and leggy growth. Avoid direct sunlight which can scorch the leaves.
Nutrients
Fertilize your Ficus microcarpa every four to six weeks during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength. Avoid fertilizing in the dormant winter months to prevent harm to the plant.
Temperature
The ideal temperature range for Ficus microcarpa is between 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Protect the plant from cold drafts and drastic temperature changes which can cause leaf drop.
