About Arrowhead Plant

Syngonium podophyllum, commonly known as the Arrowhead Plant, is a versatile houseplant with arrow-shaped leaves that vary in color from green to pink, depending on the cultivar. It is a fast-growing climbing vine that often needs regular pruning to keep its growth in check. Native to tropical rain forests in Central and South America, Syngonium podophyllum thrives in warm, humid conditions and can adapt to lower light. This plant typically grows on tree trunks in its natural habitat, utilizing the tree’s structure to reach light. In homes, it can be trained on a moss stick or allowed to trail over a pot. Its adaptive nature makes it suitable for a variety of indoor environments, where it is appreciated for its decorative leaves and easy care.

How to care for Arrowhead Plant

Water

Water thoroughly but allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Arrowhead Plant prefers a consistent watering schedule. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so ensure adequate drainage. Less water is required in winter.

Light

Thrives in medium to bright indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves. Variegated varieties may require brighter light to maintain their color.

Nutrients

Fertilize the Syngonium podophyllum every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring through summer) with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength. In fall and winter, reduce feeding to once every 8 weeks or stop altogether as growth slows.

Temperature

Syngonium podophyllum prefers temperatures between 60-85°F (16-29°C). It should be protected from drafts and sudden temperature changes which can cause stress.
