About Hemp

Cannabis sativa is a herbaceous species native to Eastern Asia but now cultivated worldwide for both medicinal and recreational purposes due to its psychoactive and therapeutic effects. Characterized by its slender leaves spread across jagged branches, the plant can distinctly grow to towering heights under optimal conditions, even exceeding 5 meters. Hemp refers to the non-psychoactive varieties cultivated mainly for the fibers, seeds, and oils, which are used in manufacturing, food industries, and beauty products, whereas 'marijuana' refers to varieties harvested for the psychoactive properties of THC.

How to care for Hemp

Water

Water Cannabis sativa when the top inch of soil becomes dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while under-watering can stress the plant, especially in high heat. Employ a consistent watering schedule, and adjust based on temperature and humidity variations.

Light

The plant requires full sunlight for optimal growth, around 12-18 hours of light per day during the vegetative stage, and about 12 hours during the flowering phase. Indoor plants benefit from high-intensity discharge lamps or LED grow lights.

Nutrients

Cannabis sativa thrives with high-nutrient fertilizers particularly rich in nitrogen during the vegetative stage and phosphorus during the flowering stage. Organic choices like worm castings or bat guano are beneficial, boosting growth while enhancing soil health.

Temperature

Cannabis sativa performs best in temperatures between 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). It can tolerate a range down to 13°C (55°F) but growth may slow considerably below this range. Protect plants from extreme temperatures to prevent stress.
