Yucca gigantea, commonly known as spineless yucca, is a distinctive evergreen plant native to Central America, particularly widespread in Guatemala and Honduras. It is notable for its rosettes of soft, flexible leaves and woody, cane-like stems that can reach up to 30 feet in height in its natural habitat, though it typically remains smaller in home settings. This yucca species, unlike others, has leaves that lack sharp spines on their tips, making it safer and more suitable for domestic environments. The plant produces white, bell-shaped flowers, which are sometimes followed by seed pods, although flowering is rare in indoor conditions.

Water
Yucca gigantea requires minimal watering. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and then water deeply. Overwinter, reduce watering frequency even further to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. This plant is highly drought tolerant, making it ideal for xeriscaping or low-water gardens.
Light
Thrives in full sun to partial shade. A sunny spot where it can receive at least several hours of direct sunlight is ideal. If positioned indoors, place near a south-facing window for best growth results. Adequate light is crucial to prevent legginess and to promote flowering.
Nutrients
Feed Yucca gigantea sparingly; too much fertilizer can harm the plant. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half the recommended strength, applied approximately every other month during the growing season. Cease fertilization during the winter months when the plant's growth naturally slows.
Temperature
Prefers temperatures between 60°F and 75°F (15°C to 24°C). While Yucca gigantea can tolerate higher temperatures, it should be protected from extreme cold and drafts.
