About Swiss Cheese Vine

Monstera adansonii, commonly known as the Swiss Cheese Vine, is a striking tropical perennial famous for its quirky natural leaf-holes. These holes are believed to help the plant withstand heavy rainfall and wind in its native habitat. Typically growing as a vine, it can reach lengths of several meters in both indoor and outdoor settings. The plant's foliage is lush and vibrant, making it a favored choice for adding a touch of the tropics to home decor. It thrives in humid environments and can also be propagated easily from stem cuttings, making it popular among houseplant enthusiasts.

How to care for Swiss Cheese Vine

Water

Water your Monstera adansonii when the top inch of soil feels dry. Thoroughly drench the soil until water runs out of the drainage holes. Allow the plant to drain completely and never let it sit in standing water. Adjust watering frequency based on humidity, temperature, and light exposure.

Light

Position your Monstera adansonii in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch its leaves, while too little light can cause leggy growth and fewer fenestrations (holes) in the leaves.

Nutrients

Feed your Monstera adansonii with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer once a month during the spring and summer. Reduce feeding to once every two months in the autumn and withhold fertilizer in the winter to prevent over-fertilization, which can harm its growth.

Temperature

This plant prefers warm environments with temperatures between 18-27°C (65-80°F). Avoid exposure to temperatures below 15°C (59°F) as cold can severely harm the plant.
